The Fourth Upton Cheyney Chilli Festival 8/9 Sep

Postby Duckboy » Sat Jan 07, 2012 8:19 pm

Hi all,

I know its early but I just wanted to get the dates out to you all for this years Upton Cheyney Chilli Festival.

Last years was a massive success with 3000+ people visiting us over the course of the day and night. We had a fantastic time and based on the success, we have decided to expand the festival to two days with an opening night.

On this basis the opening night will be Friday 7th September. This will be tickets only, and will be more of a music and drinking affair than it is chilli related. We have camping on the farm this year however so we would love for as many people to arrive on the Friday as possible and make a whole weekend of it!

The real chilli festival will start on the Saturday at midday and will go on until about 8pm, with the last couple of hours being filled with live music. There will be an entrance fee on both the Saturday and Sunday although it is unlikely to exceed £3.

The Sunday will once again start at midday and finish at 5pm. There will be a chilli eating competition on both days, and we also hope to put on a non-chilli related show.

There will be loads of entertainment for adults and children alike, along with chilli talks, tastings and demonstrations. There is of course a bar and food, with the camping making it a little like a mini Glastonbury but with chillies as opposed to the drugs!

Please do put the date in your diaries and as always we look forward to welcoming a good number of the Chillies Galore members to Manor Farm, Upton Cheyney.

Cheers all.

Duckboy - aka Alex.

Be good to see you there ChilliJez!

We are actually opening a campsite this year, so there will be unlimited camping available.

Naturally the tickets for the Friday evening will be limited, although you are of course welcome to camp over on the Friday and have your own little party in the fields if you are too late to get a ticket!

The tickets normally sell out about a week before the event, so hopefully you will have time to work things out.

Cheers mate..

It sounds good. I was sorry to miss out last year and hope to be there this.

I won't be able to commit till quite close to the event. Will camping space (friday night) be limited?

Amazing news Alex!

Me and Amy both really enjoyed it last year and we'll definitely be down for the weekend again this year, think we're going to incorporate it into a bit of a South West tour, catch up with a few mates while we're down your neck of the woods.
Keep us posted on tickets such and we'll see you in September!

I was hoping to get to this last year but couldnt make it sadly. Will definitely aim to be there this time around though, especially after seeing how popular it is.

Oh and @DBoy/Alex I'm currently working my way through a bottle of your Hot Hab Sauce I got for christmas - its bloody lovely, keep up the good work!

Sounds tempting, no been camping for years.

If nothing else crops up, hopefully be there.

How easy is it to find for those without a car? Will be a bus or train to Bristol and then Dave lost after that.

How much weather reliant is it? Dave no bothered about heavy rain (drips don't drown, they just get bigger  ) but farm might be.

It's very easy to find. Last year we stayed a few miles down the road and caught the bus that runs from Bristol to Bath along the A431.

The bus stops at the bottom of the hill by the turning for Upton Cheyney and it's about a 10-15 minute walk from there. (Keep going up the hill and it's just past the Upton Inn)

If I recall it rained at the start last year and it wasn't a problem. Just put your hand over the top of your cider and everything will be fine... (Or do the sensible thing and duck into the barn. Or better still the polytunnels)

We'll be there again this year. Met a few people from here last year and looking forward to meeting a few more this time around.

How easy is it to find a B&B in Bristol that time of year?

Might fire down a couple of days before and have a little tour of the area. Never been to them parts before so want to explore and expand my horizons and knowledge of this great island of ours.

Still up for camping, its half the fun ain't it putting up the tent in the rain, pitch dark, steaming drunk, unable to stand let alone work out tent construction.

Yup, pretty sure that sober daylight tent construction is actually illegal

Fantastic news that those of you that came last year are planning to come again, and also that there will be newbies!

There are quite a few B+B's nearby - just Google B+B near Upton Cheyney and there are loads. Cant beat the camping though. The farm is perched halfway up a hill overlooking Bristol, Bath and the Welsh mountains. Lovely view to wake up to - even with a hangover!

Loads more info to announce nearer the time, but for now, just thanks for all your support and have a great chilli growing year.

Just one question Alex, what are the toilet facilities like there?

I have Crohn's so sometimes need to be close to a bog after munching the hot stuff with cider.
