West Dean Chilli Fiesta Now in its ninth fiery year, West Dean gardens are given over to chilli madness when the red hot chilli fiesta gets under way. There are over 200 peppers grown in pots in the magnificently restored Victorian Glasshouses and displayed in pristine rows in every shape and size ranging from serene green through to red hot! There are guided tours of the walled gardens as well as chilli growing demonstrations throughout the day. An excellent range of plants, gifts, sauces and other chilli paraphernalia available from the ever increasing number of stall holders. We have now been for the last 3 years and each year it is getting busier with more on display, chilli plants and seeds to buy along with growing advice from West Dean gardeners. The food has now spread from Mexican and Thai cooking to the Middle East and Africa with the sauces and pastes all out to taste before you buy. Update 2006 Fiesta, this is now a really big event, the stalls are still in the courtyard with the victorian greenhouses where they originally started, but more have now have crept out and filled the first grass area, now giving plenty to see, taste and eat, live music is also on throughout the day. Over the few years we have been visiting the stalls must have multiplied ten fold. It is really too busy! as you have to squeeze in to see what's on offer most places, get there early as the queue is now a problem on the main road in although there is plenty of car parking.
